Embedded Internship Log Professional Staff Evaluation & Development
Mr. McCarley did a wonderful job of having numerous conversations with me throughout my Internship. He was readily available and would give me feedback on my experiences as well as give me questions and ideas to consider. When I first created this plan, it was guided by the class textbook. However as I progressed through the program, I found the best experience is hands on experience. I actively sought out opportunities that allowed me to observe our district leaders in action. Having a plan helped me to stay focused and not put all of my time and effort in one area. The plan also helped me seek out experiences I would not normally want to participate in. As I grew through the knowledge gained, I could see the effects of it in my role as a campus leader as well. My interactions with my district peers were viewed through a different lens. The reflection of the activities has been where I have grown the most as many times I have to ask myself if I would have made the same decision.
Staff development opportunities were observed district wide. I was able to assist in curriculum writing. Surveys were sent out throughout the district for feedback on staff development. Through sitting in on committees and being a part of the planning for district staff development it has allowed me to think bigger than just at the campus level. I appraise teachers and staff now, however seeing how the development of principal evaluation happens was a good experience.
These courses have helped make me a better educator and one day I will take the knowledge with me in the role of Superintendent.
