Finalization of Internship Plan
As I went into my second meeting with my mentor, I was looking forward to the dialogue that we would be having. Our meeting definitely lived up to my expectations! In comparing the two meetings, I felt more informed on what the role of a Superintendent is. Therefore our conversation was a bit different. Instead of reviewing my Internship and making decisions on his own, my Associate Superintendent, Mr. McCarley and I had a true mentor/mentee meeting.
We went over my internship plan and dialogued about the activities to ensure we were on the same page. Mr. McCarley took my educational background and experiences into consideration when making final decisions about my plan. He felt I was on the right track! Being a current principal, he felt that the experiences I needed were on a district level in order to ensure that there was stretch learning on my part.
Taking the current state of what may happen to the budget, Mr. McCarley thought that it would give me a true picture of how the system works if I took finance and centered my activities around it. Our district may lose anywhere from 23 to 52 million dollars depending on the budget set by the state. This will give me a bigger picture of how decisions are made that impact everyone from central office to the campus level.
In my opinion, Mr. McCarley has helped me develop an Internship Plan that will allow me to grow through witnessing a real world situation at hand in our district. I am pleased with the outcome and am ready to start!
